Rocket Launch, originally uploaded by mark.mortensen.
I finally had a few minutes today to go through some of the thousands of photos I’ve taken this past year. This is an outtake from a model rocket launch I did with my kids in September 2009. It’s a movie generated from 90 frames shot with my Nikon D700 and the Nikkor 14-24mm.
Story line: Rocket setup, Quality Inspection, Launch, Recovery, Transport Back To Base and A Happy Dance.
Technical Ramblings: Nikon D700 on a tripod and triggered remotely on high speed shutter (5fps). I get about 19 RAW frames before the buffer is full and the frame rate slows to a crawl. I set the shutter and aperture manually to maintain a 1/8000 sec shutter. Doing this high speed shutter helped freeze the rocket in launch.

Stills of the launch.

More xmas light abstracts. Shot with my Nikkor 24-70mm with the focus backed all the way out. Creates a nice abstract of color.

My son got a unicycle for Christmas and has been practicing in the hallway. I grabbed a series of photos and stitched together with iMovie. Fun!
I tried riding it and hurt myself so it’s not for me. I can’t take the hits and bumps like a 12 year old anymore.

Continuing to expand my business offerings by including a business portrait package. These are also known as head shots. Darla was the first official client of the package which was shot at my studio (aka living room) but could of been shot on location as well. The package included a CD containing the full resolution and web sized images of about 10 different poses on a couple different backgrounds. Plus I added the usage release for any printing she may do with the images.

This year’s school picture choice for my daughter Lauren.
Technical Ramblings: All natural light being filtered by a LastoLite Tri-Flip camera right. Same old post work in Lightroom and then Photoslop with the Totally Rad Actions.

This year’s school picture choice for my son Cole.
Technical Ramblings: A mix of stobes and natural light. One Nikon SB-900 with a full CTS gel behind Cole. That’s the warm glow in the hair. Another Nikon SB-900 in a LastoLite EZYbox camera left. That would be the big catch light in Cole’s eyes. Triggered with the on-board flash of the D700 and all flashes using ETTL. My standard post work in Lightroom and Photoshop.
