Portraits : Scott Family 2011

This past December it was time for the annual Scott family picture day!  This time around I had this great idea of photographing the Scott girls in their rooms.  I would call this environmental portraiture.  The idea grew from some images I saw from their grandmother’s Flickr stream.  She had taken snapshots of each girl in their room and I though that would be a great idea for this year’s series of images.  Each image of the girl in my opinion really reflects the unique personality of the girls.

My Work On Display @ Sheraton Denver West

We shot a beautiful wedding this past summer on 09.10.11 for Jenilee & Craig (wedding and engagement).  The reception was held at the Sheraton Denver West.  After some discussions with the hotel I’ve been able to display some of my work from Jenilee & Craig’s wedding in their client meeting room. Whoo hoo!

Three prints were selected.  The first is a gorgeous 20×30 image of Jenilee & Craig during their first dance.  The second is a 20×40 image of the Sheraton’s ball room setup for about 200+ people.  The final third image is a 8×56 panoramic image of Jenilee’s Dad’s side of the family.

Location Scouting : Virginia Dale Community Church

For all our weddings I’ll go scout out the church and reception venues prior to the wedding.  Catherine and Drew’s wedding slated for December 2012 is a bit special as the location of their church is in an isolated location south of Virginia Dale, Colorado.  Virginia Dale is north of Ft. Collins and near the Colorado and Wyoming state line on Hwy 287.  On my last trip north to Idaho I took an alternate route to visit the Virginia Dale Community Church where their ceremony will be held.  The little church has a wood burning stove as a source of heat and a couple of outhouses for bathroom facilities.  I personally wouldn’t recommend using the outhouses unless absolutely necessary.   When I dropped by the preacher’s wife was practicing the piano and we had a nice little chat.  We are looking forward to shooting Catherine and Drew’s wedding in this quaint little church next December!  Catherine and Drew’s engagement session can be found here.

Engagement : Catherine and Drew

Catherine and Drew are from Ft. Collins where Catherine is finishing up her degree in technical writing.  My wife and I had a great time getting to know the two of them better and to walk around the CSU campus for their engagement session.  We look forward to their wedding coming up in December 2012 at the Virginia Dale Community Church outside of Virginia Dale, CO (north of Ft. Collins).

Doll Photography : NIADA 2011 Annual Conference

Here’s something different rather than a wedding or portrait session.  Take a look at some very talented doll artists who got together in Westminster this summer for their annual NIADA doll makers conference.  NIADA stands for National Institute of American Doll Artists, however, a lot of their members are from around the world.  It was great to hear the story behind each doll and how some of the dolls looked a lot like their creator.  Enjoy!

Wedding : Jennifer and Wes @ Red Rocks

Jennifer and Wes’s wedding at Red Rocks in Morrison Colorado was truly a beautiful September wedding.  We shot their engagement session in June in Golden Colorado.  Both Jennifer and Wes are hearing impaired so there were several signers during the ceremony and reception.  Wes was probably the most articulate man with his words I have ever met.  He gave very moving ceremony vows and a wonderful speech during the reception.  We had a bit of trouble getting his ring off his finger at the reception for some photos.  A little butter from the table worked wonders. Congratulations and best of luck on your new life in Atlanta!

Business Headshots : Atelier Interior Design

Atelier Interior Design  helped me do a revamp of my home studio and I did their business headshots.  Katie and Erika hooked us up with a great faux painter and an interior painter that I highly recommend.  This was my first experience working with interior designers and in beginning they selected some color combinations I wouldn’t of necessarily selected.  However, after putting the suggested colors on the walls and drapes hung the studio looks great.

Wedding : Jenilee and Craig @ Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church

Jenilee and Craig met us about a year ago at a bridal show.  We shot their engagement session in January 2011 in Golden, CO.  Their wedding date was 09.10.11 which was also Jenilee’s parent’s anniversary.  To make things even more interesting Jenilee and Craig were getting married in the same church as her parents, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lakewood, CO.  Jenilee and Craig wanted group images of their extended family which of course was very large.  We came up with the idea to create panoramic images of the family units for a unique portrait of their extended family.  Take a look at the last image in the post to see the end result of the 4 extended families.  Our technique is to photograph each family unit and then stitch the groups of families into a panoramic image.

Wedding : Jennifer and Matt @ Crested Butte Colorado

Jennifer and Matt had the most beautiful wedding in a high meadow outside of Crested Butte Colorado.  The ceremony was originally slated to be at Emerald Lake, however, the snow pack this year was so heavy one couldn’t drive up to the lake even in July.  Instead they found a random meadow lower in elevation (still around 9500 ft).  Jennifer and Matt selected July as their wedding date because it is the height of the wild flower season in Crested Butte.  That was an understatement as the day after the wedding my wife and I went back up to the wedding site and spent all day taking just wild flower pictures.  Their engagement session was taken at Red Rocks in May.  Thank you Jennifer and Matt for a wonderful weekend in the mountains.

Engagement : Jennifer and Wes

Jennifer and Wes were truly a unique couple as they are both profoundly deaf.  Plus Wes is about 1 1/2 feet taller than Jennifer.  It was a joy to watch them signing with each other and then start laughing over what ever was said.  We are looking forward to their wedding in Sept at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO.
