Engagement : Jennifer and Matt

Jennifer and Matt were such a wonderful couple to be around.  They had this ability to make people laugh and smile when you were around them.  Their engagement session was shot at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO.  We look forward to their wedding in Crested Butte, CO in July.  Enjoy!

Portraits : Boersma & Jimenez Family

My wife, Corie, has known the Boersma family (Ian and Veronica) for quite some time.   Veronica and Corie both work for Denver Public Schools and met while teaching primary at Academia Ana Marie Sandoval, which is a dual language Montessori school in the Highlands area.  When Veronica’s sister, nephew and father came up from Mexico they felt it was time for a multi-generational family portrait.  These images were all taken in their living room. Take a look at the slideshow and at the end is an image of the finished artwork hanging on the Boersma’s stairway walls.  The framed artwork running up the stairs are 10×15 inch images and the canvas on the stairway landing is a 30×30 inch gallery wrap.  As a service my studio provides I personally came and hung the framed artwork and canvas on the walls for the family.

Wedding : Jessica and Mark @ The Peak Community and Wellness Center

Jessica and Mark’s wedding was different than any other wedding we’ve photographed.  It was held on New Year’s Eve with the reception and entertainment first then the actual ceremony last after the new year.  I’ve known Jessica for several years and it was great to see her marrying such a great guy.  Their engagement session can be found here.

I’ve known the Scott family for over a decade now. Sean (Dad) and I met each other in 1999 when we worked at the same IT company. We’ve just stayed in touch and now I’m their family photographer. Enjoy!

Engagement : Jessica and Mark

I’ve known Jessica for several years and had taken some beautiful images of her daughter and herself a few years back. So when she announced she was getting married to Mark she selected me as her engagement and wedding photographer.  Their engagement shoot was taken in the Denver West area and included Jessica’s daughter.

Ramblings : Winter Travels Through Eden Wyoming

Last week my wife and I went to Idaho for Christmas to visit my kids and parents.  I make the trip from Denver to Idaho Falls, Idaho on a regular basis as that is were my kids reside.  On the drive back to Denver this past Sunday we were traversing across Wyoming on US Highway 191 in the morning where the temperature was a toasty 8 degrees Fahrenheit.  Over night fog formed and at such a cold temperature every tree and wire got coated in snow and ice.   As we passed little Eden Wyoming (population ~388) my wife suggested we should stop and take pictures.  Originally, I wasn’t too thrilled about stopping to take pictures (8 degrees is cold!) and I wanted to get home and didn’t want to stop for anything (such a man thing I’m told).  Somehow my wife convinced me it would be a good idea to stop and this little log church was where we parked.  Thanks honey! It really was a good idea after all even though my face was frozen for a good 30 minutes.

For the technical camera junkies the panoramic of the log church is a hand held 11 image composite.  There was no way was I going to spend time setting up a tripod in that cold.  The image below is after Photoshop has done the merge of the images.  Content Aware Fill in CS5 came in very handy as I had to “create” some sky in the upper left and right plus some fence line in the lower right.  Want to know more on how I did this drop me a comment or email as I’d be happy to give back to the community.

Portraits : My Kids

I would believe you can ask any photographer and they’ll say that taking pictures of your own family/kids is one of the hardest things to do.  Reason probably is that your own kids have less patience with you than if you were a stranger behind the lens.  However, this year’s picture day with my kids went fairly well.  My daughter had several locations picked out for her shoot.  First it was at her school and then by the river.  My son on the other hand was of the opinion where ever you want to is fine with me Dad.

Studio News : Denver Great Bridal Expo

Last month on 11.07.10 Corie and I had the opportunity to be a vendor at the Great Bridal Expo in Denver, CO.  By the way, Corie is my wife and an incredible second shooter and support person during weddings.  This was our first bridal show we had participated in as vendors.  Corie and I met over 80 brides during the show and apparently there were over 800 registered brides for the show in total.  All we remember from the very short couple of hours before the fashion show began was meeting a constant stream of great people.  Some were planning way ahead for weddings in 2014!  Others planning for the big day in 2011.  We also mingled with several other photographers to talk a bit of shop.  Apparently, this year’s show had a much higher turn out than previous years and all I can say is finally it appears like the economy is starting to come out of its tail spin.  If you were at the show drop us a comment or email to say hello!

Studio News : Studio Moving

We are sad and excited at the same time to announce this news.  First some history, back in the spring of 2010 we moved into a dedicated studio space on S. Pearl St. in Denver, however, the space has not turned out to be economically feasible and thus we are moving out at the end of the year.  Where are we going?  Well, we are moving the business back into a dedicated home studio space on 2550 Queen St, Lakewood, CO.   At first I was very disappointed that the dedicate studio space didn’t work out. With the help of my wife, Corie, I eventually came to realize this is a positive move because we’ll be able to give a better product at a competitive price without the overhead of a dedicated studio space.

Check out the images of the new space which is still a bit of work in progress.  Indoor photo shoots will happen on the left and client meetings will happen on the right side of the room.  Studio space is isolated from the rest of the house amazingly well.  Outdoor photo shoots have many opportunities within walking distance of the front door.
