Business Headshots : Barbara

A local from the neighborhood around the studio gave me a call for some long needed business headshots.  Barbara is a mediator and wanted some inviting images of her for her website and brochures.  We spent about an hour going through several clothing changes and backgrounds.  I can’t stress enough to business owners how important a good headshot is for communicating with prospective clients.  Poorly done headshot images don’t portray you in your best light and could mean losing a potential customer.

Sneak Peek : Kat Class of 2011 Senior Portrait

A sneak peek at Kat’s senior portrait session this past weekend held at Wash Park in Denver, CO.  There were some nasty storm clouds rolling in the afternoon before Kat’s shoot but like they do most of the time the storm clouds blew past just in time.  Kat was extremely easy to work with and I look forward to presenting all the great images to the family soon!

Family Portraits : Meyer Family Plus Some

I have a history of doing product photography for the Meyer family.  This time around it was family portraits they were after and included their immediate family plus extended family.  With 18 people involved it was a great opportunity to create one of my panoramic images of the entire family.  Panoramic family portraits are great way to handle very large groups. Each individual family group is shot one at a time and then with the magic of Photoshop a composite image is created of all family members.

Modeling Shoot : KidSport Kids

I recently partnered up with a local clothing store down the street from the studio called KidSport.  The contest entailed a drawing where the winning parents brought their kids down to the studio for a modeling shoot in KidSport clothing.  Nine lucky kids got to spend an afternoon at the studio and in the end I created this panoramic composite image of all the kids.  Thank You to all the incredible kids and parents for participating in the modeling shoot.  The panoramic is currently hanging in the studio lobby and in the near future I’ll be hanging some prints in the KidSport store as well!

Baby Photography : Baby Pascal

My friend and co-worker Steve and his wife recently introduced a new baby boy, Pascal, into the world.  It was an excellent opportunity to let Pascal be my first baby portrait session in my new studio.  Steve has a collection of tattoos and I thought that would make for a very interesting father son portrait.  The AlienBee PLM (Parabolic Light Modifier) was used to create a soft light mood.  What is a PLM you ask?  It’s a hugh 86″ light modifier, shaped much like an umbrella, that takes my tiny light from my strobe and creates a nice soft light.

Steve and his wife have spent a lot of time in Europe and this collection of stuffed animals are from different countries in Europe.

DaVita : Teammate Business Portraits

Today offered me another opportunity to photograph some DaVita teammates.  This time it was members of our compliance group and they requested business portraits for an organization chart.  It was a bit cold to take them outside so these images were taken in the lobby of the building.  I recruited one of the teammates to hold my reflector and taught her a bit about lighting.

Business Portraits : Linda

Linda told me she has been reluctant to get her business portraits completed for sometime.  However, she has been needing some professional photos to help represent her image better in her pre-paid legal services business.  She brought along her daughter, Alex, for support and they both did a great job in making the photo session fun and enjoyable.  Linda was referred to me by a contact in one of my business leads groups.  Referrals seem to be the way the majority of my work is coming in these days and is much appreciated.

Linda also wanted some B/W conversions as such this is one of the treatments I presented.

Thank you Linda and Alex for an enjoyable photo shoot!

Business Portraits : Darla

Continuing to expand my business offerings by including a business portrait package.  These are also known as head shots.  Darla was the first official client of the package which was shot at my studio (aka living room) but could of been shot on location as well.  The package included a CD containing the full resolution and web sized images of about 10 different poses on a couple different backgrounds. Plus I added the usage release for any printing she may do with the images.

How To Pout

Meet Jessica, the youngest of four from a family portrait session taken at Chautauqua in Boulder, CO.  Something tells me she does a lot of this at home.  I had asked Jessica a simple question, “Do you know how to pout?” and this was the result.

David

David, originally uploaded by mark.mortensen.

Another B/W from the senior portrait shoot with David at the Denver Botanic Gardens. This image is an extremely shallow depth of field out of my 70-200mm f/2.8. I believe an eye lash is in focus and that’s about all. I would like to do more shooting in this location just need to find a patient model as I experiment. :)

Technical Ramblings: One Canon 580ex flash fired camera right against the glass wall of the building. Lightroom sharpening and clone tool for the skin touch ups on the face. Photoshop CS3 and Totally Rad Actions; Boring Old BW and Pro-Retouch.
